You have a right and an obligation to protect yourself, your family and others against physical harm, slavery, oppression and death.
The important concepts are that you as a human being have both the right and obligation to protect yourself and your family against these evils. If you fail in these obligations, including the failure to ensure you have the means to protect yourself and others, then you are wrong.
And no society can possibly protect you all the time. In order to that, 50% of the people would have to be protectors and the other 50% the protected. And that then begs the question, who is the protector and who is the protected? Always hope and strive for a safer society, but if you fail to protect then you are wrong.
